The Limousin herd at Muirhouses was established in
1998 with females purchased at the Lumbylaw sale and also from Newhouse.
All of the herd is descended from these bloodlines.
The herd is run along side the commercial suckler unit with our
aim to buy only superior bulls for breeding replacements and top
quality suckled calves.
Only the best heifer calves are retained in the herd for breeding
and only the best bulls are brought out for sale. All others are
transferred to the commercial herd and sold as stores. This ensures
continuous improvement to our herd.
The commercial herd was placed 3rd in the Limousin Suckler Herd competition,
Scottish region 2006.
